Zak Gilsenan joins League Two club after Blackburn Rovers departure

Zak Gilsenan has joined League Two side Grimsby Town following his departure from Rovers.

The 22-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper over a two-year deal with the Mariners, who finished ninth last season and only a couple of points off the play-offs.

Gilsenan had been with Rovers since Under-16 level and made a handful of first-team appearances, scoring against Walsall and Harrogate in the Carabao Cup.

However, his time in East Lancashire was hampered by injuries and Rovers opted against taking up his 12-month contract option.

Grimsby boss David Artell is excited by Gilsenan’s “potential” and says he has been on their radar for some time.

“We are really pleased that Zak’s decided to join us, he’s a player we’ve had our eyes on for a while,” he told the club site.

“He’s a really good player with a lot of potential, excellent on the ball and we are really excited to start working with him.”

Gilsenan added: “I’m delighted to sign for this club, I can’t wait to play in front of all the fans and show you what I can do!”
