The eight-part thriller sees five people become embroiled in a high-profile case
Suspicion, an eight-part thriller, is set to air on ITVX. The gripping series follows the lives of five individuals who are thrust into a whirlwind of chaos after being identified as suspects in a kidnapping case by London police.
The group stands accused of involvement in the disappearance of American media tycoon Katherine Newman’s (portrayed by Uma Thurman) son Leonardo (played by Gerran Howell), and they must battle to clear their names.
Originally broadcast on APPLETV+ in 2022, the series boasts a star-studded cast including Kunal Nayyar of The Big Bang Theory fame and Lydia West from It’s A Sin.
The plot is inspired by the Israeli television thriller False Flag, which tells the story of five ordinary Israeli citizens who wake up one morning to find themselves implicated in a high-profile kidnapping.
Their personal details, including passport photos, are splashed across media outlets and TV channels worldwide, reports Surrey Live.
The narrative for the Israeli series draws loosely from the real-life assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai.
Al-Mabhouh, co-founder of the military wing of the Islamist Palestinian group Hamas, was assassinated on 19 January 2010.
A diplomatic crisis erupted when it was alleged that Mossad agents used counterfeit foreign passports to execute the killing.
He was murdered in the luxurious Al Bustan Rotana Hotel in Dubai, having arrived in the country earlier that day from Syria under an alias.
Initially, authorities in Dubai were under the impression that al-Mabhouh had died of natural causes.
Actress Elizabeth Henstridge shared insights into the series ‘Suspicion’ with Collider saying: “It has a bit of everything, but at its heart it’s a suspenseful thriller.”
Henstridge delved into the show’s themes: “And along the way, it asks a lot of really big questions about the truth, what is the truth, how it can be constructed and who by, the role social media plays in that, how surveillance impacts our lives and personal rights, socioeconomic status and how that impacts your life and whether it’s fair.”
The actress spoke about the scope of the storyline: “There’s a lot that goes into it. There are massive topics in there, but we also get to see these very ordinary people and how their lives get completely turned upside down because they’re accused of a kidnapping.”
Emphasising the emotional arc, she added, “And then they’re tasked with clearing their name, and how that really affects their lives, and how it could possibly destroy it.”
