Fluminense vs Al-Hilal predictions

Saudi upstarts Al-Hilal finds themselves slight favourites against a Brazilian powerhouse but expect Fluminense to have the final say in their quarter-final showdown in Orlando.

That Al-Hilal have made the last eight is, on the face of it at least, a surprise. And they have ridden their luck at times.

But a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid and a 4-3 win after extra-time against Manchester City show that the Riyadh rich kids are into the quarter-finals on merit.

And that’s to be expected of any side managed by Simeone Inzaghi, last seen in Europe guiding Inter Milan to the Champions League final and who runs a team featuring a host of ageless class pros of the calibre of Joao Cancelo, Ruben Neves and many more.

Now comes a different test against Fluminense, who doubtless broke Inzaghi’s heart by beating his previous club 2-0 in the last 16.

That was an impressive effort by Flu, who scored early through veteran frontman German Cano, mopped up pressure galore – the Italians had over twice as much of the ball – and then snatched a second late on as Inter piled bodies forward.

They, like Al Hilal, are unbeaten with three clean sheets in their four games, perhaps most notably in their opener, a 0-0 draw against free-scorers Borussia Dortmund.

This is a fascinating tussle, a tie few would have expected at this stage and one in which mighty Flu are a big price to win.

Key stat

Fluminense have kept clean sheets in five of their last six competitive fixtures.

Fluminense vs Al-Hilal team news and predicted line-ups

Fluminense

Hercules could come in for Martinelli who was struggling against Inter. Left wing-back Rene is suspended so Fuentes should cover.

Starting line-up (5-3-2): Fabio; Xavier, Ignacio, Thiago Silva, Freytes, Fuentes; Hercules, Bernal, Nonato; Arias, Cano.

Al-Hilal

Skipper Salem Al-Dawsari (hamstring) is still missing for Al Hilal. Inzaghi played 3-5-2 against Man City and may well repeat it with Kaoi Cesar pushing to start ahead of Malcom up front.

Starting line-up (3-5-2): Bounou; Koulibaly, Neves, Lodi; Cancelo, Milinkovic-Savic, Kanno, N Al-Dawsari, Al-Harbi; Malcom, Leonardo.

Fluminense vs Al-Hilal bet builder predictions

Al-Hilal Over five corners

The Saudi side clocked up six against Real Madrid and 11 against Salzburg, so Al-Hilal can muster at least six corners against Fluminense.

Jhon Arias 2+ Shots

With 13 shots in four games, Jhon Arias has his eye in and can power off at least another three in Orlando.

Over four cards

The stakes are high and Flu managed four yellows against Inter, so expect at least five combined this time.
