The Challenge

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician III to join our Project Development Team.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Assist our Contract and Proposal Engineers in work related to contract preparation and letting for all Division-Let highway project contracts.
  • Review plans and estimate quantities to ensure data is accurate and in accordance with any planning report, technical data, and current NCDOT/FHWA policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate and critique estimates, plans, and proposals prepared and submitted by other NCDOT units or by consultant engineering firms to ensure that they have been prepared in accordance with NCDOT policies/procedures and federal requirements.
  • Evaluate utility conflicts with help from our Utility Coordinator to ensure utilities are moved before project advertisement.
  • Ensure appropriate cost estimates and Project Special Provisions are developed.
  • Help our Contract and Proposal Engineers with data entry, such as the generation and review of contract quantities.
  • Formulate official engineer’s estimate.
  • Determine contract times.
  • Assist our Division Design Construct Engineer with survey and design activities.

 

What You Bring

  • Computer skills in CADD/ORD software.
  • Ability to safely operate a State vehicle.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Computer experience using CADD/OpenRoads Designer, Microsoft Office, and drafting applications.
  • Strong math knowledge (such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry).
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and procedures.
  • Experience taking notes, collecting field data, and preparing routine reports.

 

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related field, and
  • 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
