Channel 5’s Reuben Owen dealt crushing blow as he details ‘the end’

Channel 5’s Life in the Dales star Reuben Owen is set to be hit with disaster as he takes on a huge challenge this week ahead of birthday celebrations with his friends.

This week, Channel 5’s Life in the Dales with Reuben Owen presents a rather ambitious endeavour as the entrepreneur gears up for his birthday festivities.

In a teaser for the upcoming episode, which airs on Tuesday evenings, viewers are given a sneak peek of Reuben and his mates embarking on a vintage tractor adventure.

He aims to drive a 60-year-old tractor from the scenic Yorkshire Dales right to the Whitby coast.

But it seems the journey isn’t all smooth sailing. In the preview, shown on X, Reuben is spotted aboard his trusty tractor confessing: “I’m very nervous!”

The narration in the clip highlights the ambitious challenge as they say: “The six tractors are all battered veterans, so pushing them flat out up a steep incline puts their aging engines at serious risk of malfunction.”

As Reuben’s friends also confront the challenging ascent, one mate is captured shouting words of encouragement to their old tractor, reports Leeds Live.

However, as Reuben’s trusty motor nears the twist in their tale, he notices the climbing temperature under the bonnet.

Later in the trailer, Reuben faces further woes with steam billowing from his tractor’s engine by the roadside, while a friend laughs at the predicament.

The commentary humorously remarks: “You don’t have to be a mechanic to know that tractors are not supposed to be steaming like the Flying Scotsman.”

Ultimately conceding defeat, Reuben admits: “I think that’s the end of my run. So close, so close!”

The Channel 5 celebrity was planning a trip to Whitby to mark his 21st birthday, with his girlfriend Jess arranging balloons and a cake for him, both of which were stowed under the engine of Tommy’s tractor.

On Reuben’s programme last week, viewers learned about his brother Miles’ medical crisis that led to him being airlifted to hospital.

The young lad had developed DKA, diabetic ketoacidosis, a potentially fatal condition where a lack of insulin leads to dangerously high levels of ketones in the blood.

Reflecting on the distressing incident, his father Clive confessed: ” I think, probably one of the worst days of my life, I think you could safely say. Scary day.”

Clive recounted how poorly Miles had felt the previous day, allowing him to have a lie-in the following morning.

Describing his son’s condition when he found him, Clive continued: “He was laid out on the stairs, halfway down the stairs, couldn’t stand. His head was back, and he was struggling to breathe.

“You could see there was something majorly wrong here. So, panic stations.”
