The Challenge
We are hiring an Assistant Bridge Programs Engineer II to join our team.
In this role, you will:
- Assist our Bridge Program Manager and project development team in providing management of bridge and roadway projects in Division 11.
- Provide engineering support to manage and coordinate project development and design efforts between NCDOT, Consultant Engineering Firms, and support staff.
- Perform preliminary project scoping.
- Establish project delivery dates.
- Manage funding requests.
- Review project designs.
- Coordinate utility relocations.
- Develop project estimates.
- Assist with Right of Way issues.
- Manage and oversee consultant engineering firms.
- Prepare for and attend public meetings.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with public officials, consultants, NCDOT staff, environmental, other agencies, and the public.
- Provide engineering and design guidance to NCDOT engineering staff, private engineering firms, and local municipalities.
- Serve as a liaison between these firms, municipalities, and Division staff.
- Provide project status reports and funding sources to our Bridge Program Manager and project development staff on a regular basis.
- Provide support needed to ensure projects stay on scope, schedule, and budget while minimizing and managing risks.
- Traverse uneven and difficult terrain.
- Operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather including snow and ice.
What You Bring
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex project development based on reviewing plans for completeness, compliance with engineering principles, standards, and design needs.
- Experience leading multiple projects, scheduling, and directing multiple work crews.
- Demonstrated ability coordinating with multidisciplinary staff on technical matters and training junior engineers.
- Experience in the development and/or review of engineered design plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with construction and engineering principles.
Note
- We will give preference to registered professional engineers and may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
